about lucy ellis

Lucy is a folk singer/songwriter based in Toronto who is always writing songs in her head.

She finds inspiration in the poetry she read growing up, in movie soundtracks, and in the time she spends outdoors. As a musician and actor, she incorporates both art forms in her storytelling to connect with her audience. She released her debut EP "Come of Age" last year, and continues to write songs on themes that explore emotion, identity, and memory. Read more

Lucy released her FACTOR-funded debut EP "Come of Age" in March of 2024.

The original songs on this EP were written with the intention of trying to figure out what it means to grow older and have a healthy relationship with yourself while doing it. It's dedicated to anyone who's ever wished to be free from self-criticism, or anyone pursuing something that they feel is out of their depth - and doing it anyway.

"Come of Age" consists of four originals, one song co-written with the acclaimed writer and poet Robert Macfarlane, and one cover - as a tribute to those who found her music through her covers online.

It was produced by Ari Posner, with songs arranged with the help of five time Genie award winning composer/orchestrator Jim McGrath. The instrumentalists included Les Allt, Max Christie, and Scott wavers (principal flute, clarinet, French horn of at the Canadian Opera Company, respectively), as well as Oboist Colin Maier (Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra), and strings player Drew Jureka, who is currently up for a record of the year grammy for his work with Dua Lipa.

The sensational team of instrumentalists and mix/mastering engineer Keith Ohman (Pirate Studios) bring the songs of the EP to life, and give the traditional genre of folk a film-score twist.

Fans on original songs

I found [Returning to the Start] when I was going through a really rough patch... I've been listening to your other original songs on repeat and they've really helped me pull myself out. ”

@Kelrei0

Hauntingly beautiful... The honesty and vulnerability in [202020] found me right where I was wanting to be found.”

Jay Case (@jaywcase)

For the many faults of the modern internet, access to this type of art is a privilege that myself in another hemisphere from you 20 years ago would not have. ”
